Lignans are secondary plant compounds found in high concentrations in flaxseed. They are classified as phytoestrogens and are powerful plant-based antioxidants.

We specifically use lignans because they do two things that other antioxidants cannot. They balance hormone levels—which is particularly important for older dogs whose adrenal function is declining—and they inhibit an enzyme (3-beta-HSD) involved in cortisol production.
